Athens, W.Va. - Coach Todd Diuguid picked up his 100th career win this afternoon as his Golden Eagles defeated Concord University 2-1 on a late goal by
Erica Lemmert.
Charleston struck first in the MEC matchup when
Maria Camila Torres took a ball from
Holly Bigg that put her one-on-one with the Mountain Lion keeper, Lacie Geisel. Geisel made the initial save on Torres' first strike but left a rebound for Camila that she blasted into the back of the net to put UC up 1-0 in the 24th minute. Fifteen minutes later the Mountain Lions took advantage of Charleston's inability to make a clearace and evened the match at 1-1 after a Kari Simon finish from just a few yards out that beat
Zoe Zyta.
The score stood 1-1 as both team exited the field for halftime.Â
Both teams created decent chances over the next 45 minutes but Charleston made the most of their opportunity in the 88th minute.
Brittany Akers gathered a ball on the right sideline, beat the Mountain Lion to the endline and served up a ball that Erica Lemmert volleyed in from inside the six yard box to give Charleston the 2-1 lead with only two minutes remaining.Â
The win gave Charleston its 10th win this season as they finish 10-6-1 heading into the Mountain East Conference that begins next Wednesday.
