CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Men's Basketball looked to rebound and they did just that by defeating Wheeling Jesuit University by the score of, 83-72 Monday night, at Eddie King Gym.
UC took a 12-point lead into the half with impressive first half shooting of 55 percent from the floor connecting of four three pointers. But the story of the night was an impressive performance from junior guard
Tino DiTrapano (Charleston, WV) who led the Golden Eagles with 25 points to go with his five rebounds and two assists. DiTrapano was 4-7 from behind the arc on the night and was followed by
Chris Evans (Stamford, CT) and
Aleksander Kesic (Belgrade, Serbia) who each managed double-digit scoring performances.
Vincent Dillard (Sanford, FL) off the bench managed nine points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
For the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit they didn't go without a fight as they cut an 18-point lead to just nine on four different occasions. However, UC had an answer each time to make it double digits on the next possession. Rebounding for Charleston is still an area of concern as WJU out rebounded UC 47-34 with 27 of those being offensive and leading to 15 second chance points.
WJU was led by Haywood Highsmith who finished the game with a game high 27 points. Kyle Ritz turned in a double-double performance with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
UC is back in action this Sunday, at 5pm as they play host to Virginia Union University, in Eddie King Gym.
