FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston rushed for 307 yards in a 42-17 victory over Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.
After
Daniel Monroe scored on a 56-yard dump-off from Cody Stevenshon to put the Falcons on the board at the 6:44 mark of the first quarter, Charleston scored 42 of the next 45 points to run away with the victory.
The Golden Eagles improve to 7-3 overall and 6-3 in the Mountain East Conference. Fairmont State slips to 3-6 on the season.
In addition to Charleston averaging 6.7 yards per carry, the Golden Eagles also went 6-of-6 from in the red-zone and completed just seven passes on the afternoon. Fairmont State had 254 yards through the air and held nearly a six minute advantage in time of possession.
The UC offense was led by
Marvin Elam with 13 carries for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Josef Hinnant chipped in 88 yards on 15 carries and scored once in the victory. Charleston had four players go over 50 yards and reach the endzone on the ground.
Jermaine Kelly completed 6-of-12 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown from the quarterback position for UC.
Charleston was led on the defensive side of the ball by
Justin Avery with 12 tackles and a sack.
Tucker Schaefer and
Malcolm Catereach recovered fumbles for the Golden Eagles.
Charleston will wrap up the regular season next Saturday when they host Urbana University for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Golden Eagles will be recognizing their departing seniors prior to kickoff.
