CHARLESTON, W.Va. –
Kiara Johnson posted a double-double for the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon in an 85-68 win over the visiting Urbana University Blue Knights at the Eddie King Gym.
Johnson finished the afternoon with 18 points and 10 rebounds, going perfect from the field, 7-for-7, and from the free throw line, 4-for-4.Â
Nichole Perry led all scorers with 22 points while
LeAnne Ross chipped in 14 for Charleston. Perry and Ross combined eight three-pointers on 15 attempts.Â
The Blue Knights (1-13, 1-7) had four players in double digits, led by Tori Purk's 17 points on her perfect afternoon from the field. Urbana struggled from behind the arc, going just 3-for-17 on the day.
In a game Charleston never trailed, the Golden Eagles took command late in the first half following a 10-0 run that gave UC a 39-21 lead with 4:30 left in the half. Ross and Perry started the run with consecutive three's followed by layups by
DeJanique Reddix and
Darian Apperson. Charleston stretched the lead out to 21, 46-25, going into the break after a three-point play from Johnson.Â
The UC lead ballooned out to 26 multiple times in the second half before Charleston easily walked away with the 27-point win over the Blue Knights, 85-58.
Charleston (11-3, 6-2) hits the road Monday for a 4:00 p.m. tip at Notre Dame College.
