GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Charleston's
Monet Saunders scored 20 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in UC's 73-57 road win at Glenville State Monday evening at the Waco Center.
Saunders had a double-double by halftime for the Golden Eagles with 10 point and 10 boards as Charleston carried a 15 point lead into the break at 37-22. The Pioneers struggled mightly from the floor in the first 20 minutes, going 7-for-36 to shoot just 19%.
The Golden Eagles stretched its lead out to 21 points early in the second half after a Saunders made three, but saw that advantage cut down to just six with 3:12 remaining after a made free throw from the Pioneers leading scorer for the game Keyanna Tate.Â
Charleston had an answer in
Nichole Perry on the next UC possession as
Deja Gibson found her in the deep left corner for a three point dagger. The Pioneers were forced to foul late in the contest and Charleston made 16 of their 21 second half attempts to come away with the 73-57 victory.
Perry scored 13 points for UC and moves two points away from scoring 1,000 for her career. Charleston (9-3, 4-2) resumes play Thursday evening to host Concord University at Eddie King Gym. Tip off is slated for 5:30.
