Charleston Shuts Down Wesleyan Second Time

Charleston, WV – Charleston won again in the second match up this season over rivals West Virginia Wesleyan with a 2-0 victory at Schoenbaum Stadium.

It was an all-familiar feel for UC as they dominated possession and created chances, giving nothing away defensively. They had to wait a little longer than normal, but after 19 minutes UC opened the scoring after an excellent press by Leighton Richards (Glen Allen, VA).  Richards fought hard to win the ball back in Wesleyan's box then cut the ball back to the 6-yard box looking for Charleston bodies. It was Will Roberts (Denbigh, Wales) he picked out who fired the ball across the Wesleyan goalkeeper into the side netting of the goal.

UC controlled the ball and had chances either side of the half before they were awarded a penalty kick inside 60 minutes, when a Wesleyan player handled the ball in the penalty area. Augusto Maciel (Sao Paulo, Brazil) stepped up and slotted the ball home for his third goal in as many games.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Bobcats 15-2. This clean sheet was their 8th of the season, after 11 games played. They are yet to concede a goal at Schoenbaum Stadium. This record will be tested when they host the Urbana Knights, who are ranked 20th in the nation, this Thursday for a 4pm kick off. Urbana has a current record of 9-1-1 and has only lost to the Golden Eagles. It's already being built as a conference decider. UC's record is 10-1-0 after their victory over the bobcats.

A reminder for fans travelling out to Coonskin Park for UC home games, they must take the Mink Shoals exit off I-79 (EXIT 1).
