Charleston Easily Dismantles No. 18 Urbana

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles slayed the Blue Knights of Urbana 4-0, in the fourth top 20 clash this season.

It was a huge match that held many ramifications for the conference standings. Prior to the game, Urbana was number one in the conference, holding an overall record of 9-1-1, with their only loss coming at the hands of the Golden Eagles. Charleston seemed motivated by the challenge and held no prisoners from the start, carving a variety of chances. It remained level until 19 minutes, when Renan Ramos fed the ball to Augusto Maciel. Maciel turned on the edge of the 18-yard box and passed the ball across the goal into the far right hand corner. It was a great finish by Maciel, which was his 4th goal in 4 games.

UC extended their lead 11 minutes later, after great work in the midfield by Felipe Antonio created space for Bruno Oliveira on the left hand side of midfield. Oliveira passed the ball into the box, picking out Antonio, who slotted home the excellent move at the near post.

The third goal came on the 44th minute, a minute before halftime. Will Roberts' corner kick was met by Conor Branson rising highest, who found Lewis Osborne with his header. Osborne directed the header leaving the scrambling Urbana defenders and goalkeeper with no chance.

UC continued to dominate in the second half, but couldn't beat Urbana goalkeeper Nathan Jones until the 84th minute when Branson's shot was spilled leaving Antonio for a seemingly simple tap in. However Antonio's heels were clipped, bringing him down in the area and UC were awarded a clear penalty kick. Will Roberts stepped up to confidently notch the chance.

UC outshot their opponents 25-8, and kept their 9th clean sheet of the season. They are yet to concede a goal at home. UC progressed their record to 11-1-0 for the season. They are now top of conference standings with a game in hand to play.

UC is back in home action on Sunday against Chowan, kick off is at 4pm.
