Charleston, W. Va. - After back-to-back losses to King University and Fairmont State University earlier in the week, the University of Charleston Women's Volleyball team defeated Shepherd University in an exciting five set match on Saturday. The teams battled back and forth with UC taking the first set 25-18. SU answered back in the second set, winning 25-17. The third set went back to the Golden Eagles after an amazing 11-point service run by
Claire Lambert, winning 25-23. The fourth set was tight, but the Rams took it 25-21. The deciding set went to the home team who took the match in the last set, 15-8.Â
UC's middles were on fire throughout the match.
Jordan Wittekind and
Randi Estrada lead with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. They both also earned three blocks. Lambert earned four aces throughout the match.
SU's Samantha Scroggins was a key player for SU, earning 14 kills and 5 aces. Sophie Foster earned 13 kills and 2 blocks.
UC will be taking on Rio Grande on Wednesday at the Charleston Catholic Sports Facility. The match will start at 7 pm.
