Strong Second Half Earns UC 3-0 Win at Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. - #5 Charleston disposes of Concord 3-0.

The Mountain Lions put up a fight, on a tough pitch, as they managed to hold off the Golden Eagles from scoring for 60 minutes. It was only the second time this season that Charleston had not scored in the first half. However, it was the Golden Eagles captain Conor Branson who opened the scoring after 63 minutes. Branson latched on a pass from Michael Hagarty, drove at the Concord defense and placed a bending shot into the right hand side of the goal from 20 yards out.

A minute later, UC furthered the scoring when a Concord defender handled in the area denying a goal scoring opportunity. The penalty kick was awarded, and Will Roberts's dispatched the spot kick in convincing fashion.

With 30 seconds left on the clock, Leighton Richards's scored his first of the season from an assist from Jermaine Windster. Windster's initial shot was blocked, but Richards struck the follow up on the volley and left the Concord goalkeeper with no chance as it flew into the bottom right hand corner ending the match at 3-0.

UC outshot Concord 25-6, with 9 shots on target. Fabian Veit would earn the shutout which marks UC's 10th this season. Charleston extended their record to 14-1-0 for the season. They are now 5 points ahead in conference standings with two games left to play, meaning a win against Shepherd on Wednesday, would make them regular season MEC Conference Champions.
