Phillipi, W.Va. - #5 ranked Golden Eagles handed #16 Alderson Broaddus their second defeat of the season in this top 20 match up.
Â
The Golden Eagles dropped to #5 in the nation this week after last week's unfortunate defeat to Wheeling Jesuit. Alderson Broaddus were up to #16 in the national rankings, posting a record of 8-1-1 before today's game.

The drop from the number one team in the nation certainly seemed to put fire in the bellies of UC players, who looked hungry to defeat this AB team from the onset. After just 5 minutes, Augusto Maciel opened the scoring for UC as he fired a thunderbolt from 25 yards out. The strike left AB goalkeeper, Ricard Laowith, no chance.
Â
UC were dominant in possession and squandered further chances to add to their lead in the first half. The second half started with both teams knowing the next goal was going to be crucial in the match. After 56 minutes, AB had the ball in the back of the net and half their team progressed to celebrate without seeing the official's offside flag. UC quickly restarted play and diagonally switched the play to Will Roberts who drove at his defender driving a cross into the box. The ball was half cleared and Roberts at the second time of asking drilled the ball into the bottom right hand corner.
Â
Throughout the controversy, UC kept their cool and saw out the shutout leading them to a 2-0 victory. It was UC's seventh shutout of the season in ten games. The win progresses Charleston's record to 9-1-0.
