Charleston, W.Va. -Â The University of Charleston Women's Soccer Team defeated the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals 1-0 on Saturday. This conference match was the Golden Eagles'Â last home game of the regular season for 2015.
The Golden Eagles spent the pregame honoring their eight graduating seniors. Courtney Budd (Egg Harbor, NJ), Rachel McCormick (Mississauga, Ontario), Erica Lemmert (La Plata, MD), Lindsey Henderson (Blacksburg, VA), Courtney Underwood (Hurricane, WV), Lauren Haven (Nassau, Bahamas), Isabella Jaffin (Nescopeck, PA) and Amanda McKee (Mechanicsburg, PA) were joined by family, friends, and teammates to reflect on their careers and accomplishments as Golden Eagles, as well as their future plans.
The eight seniors were riding high off emotions and came out flying in the first half, outshooting the Cardinals 8-1. The second half was no different, again out-shooting the opponent 10-2. In the 80th minute, senior Erica Lemmert was able to out hustle her defender and finish a great opportunity. Senior Courtney Budd recorded the shutout and had four saves.
Overall, the Golden Eagles finished 10-3-5 on the season, earning them the number 3 ranking in the conference. The girls travel to Notre Dame College to play in the MEC semifinals on Thursday. Â
