BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Charleston women's soccer fought hard for over 100 minutes with the #11 ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats but came up short in the MEC Women's Soccer finals, dropping a 1-0 decision.
West Virginia Wesleyan's Kelsey Sitka scored in the second overtime session to give the Bobcats the 1-0 victory over the University of Charleston and the 2015 MEC Women's Soccer Tournament title.
Sitka's score in front of the net was set up by passes from Jane Schleicher and Kelsie Hibbs.
Marlee Coleman was UC's top offensive threat with three shots on the day.
Zoe Zyta helped keep the Bobcats off the board with 10 saves on the day.
With the win WVWC earns the MEC's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. UC, along with Notre Dame, are among the MEC teams that will be considered for at-large berths. The full field will be announced tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
