ATHENS, W.Va. - Despite a combined 28 points from big-men
Jevonte Hughes and
Octavius Green, the University of Charleston Men's Basketball team dropped a crucial Mountain East Conference match-up with Concord University 63-68, Thursday night.Â
UC which led by as many at 10 points in the first half took a 33-28 lead into the half. Coming out of the half UC built the lead back out to 10 on a
Chris Evans three pointer. However, Concord (15-8, 11-7 MEC) used an 8-0 run over the next two plus minutes to fight right back into the game. A Terry Hopewell lay-up gave the Mountain Lion's the lead at 41-40 with 13:38 remaining in the game. Back and forth action saw four ties and leads for Charleston of four points and Concord of six points both created and erased with CU holding on and taking the five victory and move into a fourth place tie with Charleston for the remaining first round bye in the 2015 MEC Conference Tournament in March.
Green finished with a team high 15 points while Hughes added 13 points and nine rebounds. Â Evans rounded off the double-digit performers with 10 points for Charleston.Â
Tino DiTrapano added a team high seven assists to go with his seven points.
Concord had four guys in double-digits with Jametrius Wade leading all scorers with 17 points. Rob Reed added 16 points with Hopewell providing 13 points and nine rebounds.
Charleston (16-8, 11-7 MEC) is back in action Saturday, February 14
th against UVA-Wise with tip slated for 4pm.
