Golden Eagles Hold on to Senior Night Victory

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Head Coach Dwaine Osborne honored his four seniors Chris Evans, Deandre Leatherwood, Octavius Green, and Vincent Dillard at center court Wednesday, before the start of the Men's Basketball game between the University of Charleston and Notre Dame College.

The matchup proved to be quite the battle as the Golden Eagles defeated the Falcons 74-73, at Eddie King Gym.

A back and forth battle for 40 minutes existed on the hardwood with both teams holding eight points leads at some point during the contest, the last coming at 56-48 in the Golden Eagles favor with 11:50 remaining in the game.  But that wasn't the story line for long in either favor as UC and NDC traded leads five times apiece throughout and were tied six different times the last coming with 5:03 remaining at 64-64.  Notre Dame went on a 5-0 run but Charleston answered with an 8-0 run and a three point lead at 72-69 with 1:19 remaining.  NDC used a UC turnover and offensive loose ball foul to get within one but came up short on a half court attempt to win it and UC held on to the one point victory.

Charleston was led offensively by Evans who finished with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting.  Dillard added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Aleksander Kesic added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Eagles.  With the victory UC improves to 18-9 on the season and 13-8 in MEC play.

NDC was led by a trio including a game high 23 points and 13 rebounds by Lawrence DeArmond.  Will Vorhess had 18 points and Tyree Gaiter added 17 points and four assists for the Falcons.

UC is back in action as they will "Close the King" Saturday against Kanawha Valley rival West Virginia State with tip-off slated for 4:00pm.
