CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Charleston ended a six-game losing streak Saturday afternoon by splitting a doubleheader with Urbana University, taking game one by a 5-1 score before falling 2-7 in the second game at Triana Field.
Junior pitcher
Tyler Shreve (3-3) threw a gem for the Golden Eagles to start the day, allowing just one run in seven innings of work to give UC their 11th win of the season. The UC offense made the most of their scoring opportunities plating runs in four of six innings despite only getting four hits in the game. Â
Anthony Brunetti was 0-for-2 but drove in the two runs by way of sacrifice to pace the Golden Eagle offensive attack. Â Second baseman
Logan Valentine was 1-for-2 and scored twice for Charleston.
Charleston again could only come up with four hits in game two, but this time it wasn't enough as the Blue Knights scored seven times to win 7-2 over the Golden Eagles. Â
Andy Hoyer (0-6) took the loss in his six plus innings of work giving up all seven runs on 10 Urbana hits. Brunetti went 2-for-3 from the dish for Charleston including a double and a stolen base in the losing effort.
The Golden Eagles resume the four-game series with Urbana tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in an effort to get both games in before adverse weather makes it into the Charleston area.
