Grassie Named MEC Men's Sports Coach of the Year

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston's Chris Grassie has been named the Mountain East Conference Men's Sports Coach of the Year for 2014-15.

Grassie, in his fourth season at UC, directed a dominant season for the Golden Eagles men's soccer program. He led the team to a 22-1-1 overall record (best winning percentage among all NCAA men's soccer programs in 2014) and taking the squad all the way to the NCAA Championship game. The Golden Eagles captured both the MEC regular season and tournament titles, and in late October became the first UC team to be ranked No. 1 in the country in any sport. Grassie coached five players to All-America honors, and the team led the country in shutouts (15) and goals (85).

Grassie joins Shepherd women's basketball coach Jenna Eckelberry as MEC Coach of the Year recipients. The 2014-15 MEC Female Athlete of the Year will be announced tomorrow, and the Male Athlete of the Year will be released on Friday.
