CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles soard to their seventh victory in as many matches after defeating Notre Dame 2-0.
Â
UC started the game on the front foot, which has been typical of their play all season. It was
Lewis Osborne, who opened the scoring after 8 minutes, when he latched onto a Notre Dame defensive mistake on the left hand side. He then beat three Falcons as he cut inside driving across the edge of the box, before expertly firing a shot with his right foot, which beat Notre Dame keeper clipping the post as it went it.
Â
UC continued to dominate in the first half, and it was
Renan Ramos who furthered the scoring after 40 minutes. Ramos, the dead ball specialist, netted a free kick from 25 yards out. The free kick clipped the wall on the way past taking a slight deflection, wrong-footing the Falcons keeper. It was Ramos' second goal of the season.
Â
It was another great defensive play from UC, keeping their fifth clean sheet of the season, which all the defenders can take great credit from withstanding Notre Dame pressure in the second half. The Golden Eagles were unlucky not to extend the scoring further in the second half. They outshot their opponents 20-9, restricting them to minimal chances.
Â
Coach Grassie said, "It was a solid performance for the guys today in what were tough conditions to play in. With that much rain, mistakes become more prevalent, but we did a great job of limiting those, and literally sticking together through the storm. Notre Dame is a good team, so I was very happy with our first half performance, which was enough to see us through to the win."
