Charleston improves to 5-9 overall and picks up their third Mountain East Conference win in the process. Kiara Johnson was a monster inside the paint for the Golden Eagles, posting a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. UC had a 14-point advantage in points in the paint over the Rams. Marissa Koob and Mya Walker each chipped in 14 points, while Olivia Nicholas turned in 12 points and seven assists filling in for Chyress Lockhart at the point guard position.
Â
The Golden Eagles trailed by two, 49-51, heading in the final frame despite leading by 10 earlier in the quarter. UC closed out the game by outscoring Shepherd over the final 3:49, mostly from the free-throw line as the Rams sent the Golden Eagles to the stripe looking to extend the game. Although UC shot only 61% from the line, they made enough down the stretch to end their two-game skid.

Charleston travels to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday to take on the Bobcats with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
