Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles dropped a tough game Monday evening at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex to the visiting Pioneers from Glenville State College, 69-70. Charleston's long three-point attempt came after the horn sounded as UC dropped their second consecutive game.

UC came into the game with a plan of utilizing the the entire shot clock after beating the Pioneer pressure and executed pretty well over the 40-minute game but in the end came up just a bit short. Kiara Johnson led the Golden Eagles in scoring, pumping in 22 points on 11-of-12 shooting. Abby Watson and Brea Forney each chipped in 12 points, combining to go 6-of-8 from the three-point line. Turnovers and points off turnovers proved to be the game changer, as Glenville forced 23 turnovers turning into 24 points.

The Golden Eagles started hot, leading 16-11 at the first media break with Johnson getting good looks inside thanks to the aggressive Pioneer defense, scoring eight early points. Glenville, as they did most of the game, fired up shots from the outside to stay close to the Golden Eagles. Charleston still maintained a 5-point lead after one period of play, 22-17.

Glenville State opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run to quickly claim a 23-22 lead over the Golden Eagles. A corner three by Abby Watson ended the Pioneer run as Charleston built another lead over the visitors, exhibiting great patience on the offensive end. Glenville was able to cut into the Charleston lead late in the quarter and only trail UC by one, 34-35, heading into the break.

Out of halftime, Glenville scored nine of the first 11 points to claim a 43-37 lead. The Pioneers constant pressure started to take its toll on the Golden Eagles, committing four turnovers in the first four minutes of the half. Charleston took a timeout to regroup and evened the game at 43-43 on a Apperson baseline runner. Trailing by two, UC's Brea Forney nailed one of her four three's at the end of the third quarter clock that gave Charleston a 52-51 lead heading to the final 10 minutes.

Charleston and Glenville played in a tight fourth quarter that saw UC's Forney drill consecutive wing three's that gave the Golden Eagles a 62-61 advantage with 6:45 remaining. Again the Pioneer pressure payed dividends, leading to two Charleston turnovers and layups for Glenville to take a 67-64 lead with four minutes to play. After not scoring a bucket since the six minute mark in the quarter, UC takes a timeout and goes inside to Johnson who converts to bring Charleston within one, 66-67, with under a minute to play. The Golden Eagles would foul Glenville who stepped to the line to knock down both free throws. Down four, UC's Olivia Nicholas went the length of the floor to can a triple to bring UC within one, 69-70. Charleston fouled Glenville with under three seconds remaining to extend the game and the Pioneers missed both giving UC one last chance. Nicholas heaved a half-court shot but it came after the final buzzer sounded, Charleston falling 69-70. Â
