Notre Dame Defeats UC in OT

Charleston, W.Va. - The Falcons of Notre Dame traveled to Charleston to play the Golden Eagles in a match-up between the top two teams in the Mountain East Conference Thursday afternoon. The game's first goal came in the 14th minute when Notre Dame's Katarina Doncevic played a ball across the six to the incoming Karla DiJohn for an easy put away.

The match would remain 1-0 in Notre Dame's favor until the 85th minute when Alice Broadbent (Tamworth, England) pushed forward from a central position and carried the ball toward the end line. Broadbent served a lofted ball across the six to Lyndsey Thompson (Shady Spring, WV) for a one-time finish. The match was now a draw 1-1.

Neither team could find the net in the first overtime period. In the second overtime period, at the 100:56 mark, the Falcons were awarded a free kick from near mid-field. The ball was driven toward the near post, redirected and tucked away by Norah Barnes for the game winner.

Notre Dame improved their record to 11-1-2 overall and the Golden Eagles dropped to 10-3-2. The Falcons held a marginal lead in shots 9/5. Notre Dame keeper Sam Shoemaker recorded two saves and UC's keeper Zoe Zyta (Listowel, Ontario) registered four. UC returns to action on Sunday with a home match against Concord University at 2pm for senior night.
