CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston earned its third consecutive straight set win and sixth straight overall by defeating King University in a non-conference match Wednesday evening at the Charleston Catholic High School Athletic Complex.
Â
The Golden Eagles continued their momentum from Monday's win over West Virginia State in a hot start against the visiting Tornado, claiming the first set 25-12. The final two sets were more competitive but in the end Charleston prevailed in each, 25-23 and 25-21.
Â
Offensively, UC was led by Shiann White's eight kills on 20 attempts without an error. White also shined defensively, pacing the Golden Eagles with 20 digs followed by freshman Kelsey Matusic's 15 digs respectively. UC made it tough for Tornado hitters as Charleston totaled 11 blocks on the evening with senior middle Jordan Wittekind part of the seven of those, two solo and five assists.
Â
Charleston hits the road for their next three matches with the first at Urbana University on Tuesday, October 11.
