Kutztown, Pa. - The first round of the 2016 NCAA Women's Soccer national tournament hosted by Kutztown University matched the #3 Charleston Golden Eagles against the #6 Edinboro Fighting Scots. The winner of today's match is scheduled to play #2 Kutztown on Sunday at 1pm. Charleston entered the match with a 14-3-3 record while Edinboro's overall record was 13-5-1.Â

The Golden Eagles began the match with a fury by scoring two goals in the first seven minutes. The first goal came at the 2:09 mark when Marieke Kramer served a ball from the left flank across the face of goal. Ivey Nucilli's one-time finish in the upper 90 put the Golden Eagles up 1-0. At the 6:54 mark, Kelci Winters served a lofted ball from 35 yards out inside the six. Adele Siegel headed the ball past Edinboro's keeper, Sarah Baskey for the second goal.

The game remained 2-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles heading into halftime. Edinboro found the back of the net at the 52:16 mark when Ashley Mutkus served a ball to the weak side post and Alex Brown headed the ball in to make the score 2-1. The matches final score came at the 78:59 mark when Kelci Winters started the transition off a long throw to Lyndsey Thomson down the left flank. Thompson beat the outside back and served a ball across to an unmarked Ivey Nucilli. Nucilli tucked the ball away and scored her second goal of the match.

Edinboro outshot the Golden Eagles 26/7 on the day. UC's goalkeeper Zoe Zyta stood on her head a few times and recorded 12 saves on the day. Baskey picked up three saves for Edinboro. UC improved their overall record to 15-3-3 and are scheduled for a rematch of the first game of the 2016 season against Kutztown.Â
