CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The UC women's basketball team picked up a 75-55 victory over Kentucky State on Tuesday evening in the team's first home contest of the season. The victory is the first of the 2016-17 for the Golden Eagles, improving their record to 1-2.

The teams were tied at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter despite several back and forth lead changes. At halftime, the Golden Eagles maintained a 38-34 before the offense erupted in the third quarter. UC tallied 24 points in the third while the defense managed to hold the Thorobreds to only 8 points. UC kept the scoring coming for the rest of the game to record a 20-point victory.

Charleston was led offensively by Abby Watson who tallied 22 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Jordyn Peck recorded 17 points while Madison Jones had 12 points with five rebounds. Mya Walker and Anna Hayton each added seven points for the Golden Eagles.

Charleston returns to the hardwood on Saturday, November 19 when it hosts UVA-Wise at 2 p.m.
