CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Charleston women's basketball team dropped its opening Mountain East matchup of the season to UVA-Wise on Saturday afternoon by a score of 83-74.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles now fall to 1-3 overall (0-1 MEC) while the Cavaliers improve to 3-1 (1-0 MEC) to start the season.

UC was led in the scoring column by Jordyn Peck who dropped 24 points on the Cavaliers in 35 minutes played. Abby Watson added 19 points and five rebounds for Charleston while Olivia Nicholas also finished in double digits with 12 points.

The Golden Eagles shot 52.7 percent from the field (31.3 percent from behind the arc) and finished an impressive 11-13 (84 percent) from the free-throw line.

Charleston returns to action on Monday, November 21 when it hosts Concord in an MEC matchup at 5:30 p.m. at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Facility.Â
