The Golden Eagles were paced by Jordyn Peck's 24 points, 18 coming in the second half, while Abby Watson chipped in a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Â
Despite playing the Mountain Lions to an even first quarter, 19-19, Charleston was plagued by turnovers in the second that turned into easy baskets for Concord. That along with over 60% shooting for the visitors led to a 17-point, 45-28, deficit heading into the break.Â
Â
Abby Watson started strong for the Golden Eagles, scoring seven first half points but her minutes were limited after picking up her second foul early in the second quarter.
Â
Charleston used a solid start to cut the Concord lead to single-digits, 54-45, following a three-pointer by Mya Walker with just under four minutes left in the third quarter. Â Jordyn Peck turned in an impressive quarter for UC, putting in 10 points to bring the Golden Eagles back within seven, 56-49, heading into the final 10 minutes.
Â
UC carried the momentum into the final frame, cutting deeper into the Mountain Lion lead to only trail by three, 60-57, at the media timeout. Charleston took advantage of being in the bonus, driving hard to the basket and forcing the Mountain Lions to foul. UC claimed their first lead since the first quarter, 62-60, after Walker knocked down a pair of free throws with just under three minutes left on the game clock.Â
Â
Concord reclaimed a lead, 63-62, after Watson picked up her fifth foul of the night and Concord hit on both attempts from the stripe. Charleston wasn't to be denied this evening though, scoring the final five points of the contest, all from the free throw line, and coming up with stops on the defensive end when it mattered most. The Golden Eagles came out victorious, 67-63, to earn their first MEC win and second win of the season.
