CINCINNATI - The University of Charleston men's volleyball team has put together the longest winning streak in program history with last night's win against Cincinnati Christian University. While the win streak is only at two, keep in mind the Golden Eagles are still just a second year program that has taken on some of the top Division I teams in the nation. Prior to last night's win, the Golden Eagles were able to close out St. Andrews University in a quick three set match.
The University of Charleston was able to flex their muscles on offense in both matches, hitting a combined .321 on 165 attempts. Against St. Andrews University the Golden Eagles had six different players that hit .500 or better. Last night against Cincinnati Christian University they had 5 different players hit .500 or better. Leading the way against St. Andrews was Rajahl Moxey, who had six kills on ten attempts with zero errors for an impressive .600. Not to be out done by his fellow countrymen, Eugene Stuart posted three kills on four attempts with zero hitting errors for .750. It is important to note that both Rajahl and Eugene saw limited action in the contest against the Knights. Against Cincinnati Christian University the Golden Eagles had a new pair of offensive juggernauts in Byron Hurd and Anthony Rivera. Hurd finished with eight kills on fifteen attempts with no errors for .553, and Rivera finished with seven kills on eleven attempts with no errors for .636.
"These were both fun matches for us, as we were able to get almost everyone some quality playing time in both of them. It was good to see the guys that are normally starters support the guys who get subbed in, since our bench gives them so much support on a daily basis. We were also able to experiment with a couple unique line-ups that we have not used yet this year" said Coach Crane. Hopefully this will give them a bit of an emotional boost, as they prepare to face EIVA opponent Sacred Heart this weekend. Matches will take place both Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Facility.
