CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston women's basketball team picked up their sixth Mountain East Conference win Thursday evening upsetting visiting Notre Dame College by three points, 80-77.
Golden Eagle senior guard Chyress Lockhart led Charleston with 22 points, 18 coming after halftime. Kiara Johnson scored 17 on 7-of-10 shooting while freshman guard Abby Watson added 16 points including three makes from beyond the arc. UC was perfect from the charity stripe, making all 20 of their attempts from the line.
Charleston overcame 24 turnovers by shooting nearly 59% from the field and hit on half of their three-point attempts. The Golden Eagles also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Falcons 36 to 19. The win improves Charleston's record to 8-13 overall and 6-9 in Mountain East Conference play.
UC returns to the court Saturday afternoon to host Urbana University with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m. from the Charleston Civic Center.
