Comeback Bid Comes Up Short for UC Women

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles rallied in the second half but came up short in the closing minutes to visiting Urbana University, falling to the Blue Knights by three, 55-58.

With the loss Charleston drops to 8-14 overall and 6-10 in Mountain East Conference games.  UC is currently in ninth place with six games remaining in the regular season.

Charleston's comeback attempt was led by Chyress Lockhart's 23 points and 9 rebound effort, playing all 40 minutes for the Golden Eagles.  The only other player in double figures for UC was Mya Walker who chipped in 12 points.  Charleston struggled from the field, shooting just 33% and connected on just four of their 21 attempts from long range.

Urbana was equally as bad, going 21-69 from the floor for 30% shooting but capitalized on 19 Golden Eagle turnovers to score 19 points compared to UC scoring three points off of nine Blue Knight miscues.

The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as 11, 21-32, early in the third period before staging the comeback and was down just one heading into the final ten minutes after Abby Watson made a layup seconds before the 3rd quarter horn sounded.  Charleston held a four-point lead, 52-48, in the fourth but went ice cold over the final six minutes to let Urbana get back even at 55-55 with 3:22 to play.  UC would go scoreless down the stretch while Urbana hit on three free throws to earn a 58-55 win over the host Golden Eagles.
