CLERMONT, FL – With an exciting fifth inning, the University of Charleston softball team extended its winning streak to six games with a 5-2 victory over Shippensburg University.
Heading into the fifth inning down 2-1, Charleston started off with
Kelly Browning (Fairfield, OH) hitting her fourth double of the season.
Alyssa Stanley (Blacklick, OH) reached on an infield bunt single, and
Bethany Williams (Cooper City, FL) singled to left field, scoring Browning.Â
Natalie Beck (Napoleon, OH) then laid down a perfect bunt single to load the bases. Pinch hitter
Bailey Gogia (Naples, FL) drew a bases-loaded walk, which scored Stanley and gave Charleston a 3-2 lead.
Ansley Warner (Cooper City, FL), who was pinch running for Williams, scored on a
Rachelle Toppings (Logan, WV) single to left field.Â
Jenna Evans (Chapmanville, WV), who returned to the lineup, scored on a
Katelyn Hamilton (Parkersburg, WV) single to make the score 5-2.Â
Jessie Rowe (Lavalette, WV), who entered the game in the second inning in relief of
Alli Burdette (Charleston, WV), pitched six strong innings allowing three hits while striking out four in her third victory of the season.
The Golden Eagles move to 7-2 on the season and play again on Tuesday, March 8, at 1 p.m. against Walsh University in Clermont. Â Â
