Golden Eagles Drop Game vs. Wheeling

Wheeling, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Women's Lacrosse Team dropped their fourth straight conference match to Wheeling Jesuit with a 21-2 decision. The Cardinals now lead the MEC, having defeated every conference opponent in the 2016 season. The Golden Eagles, now 1-10-0, traveled to the conference rival Cardinals April 17th for a 1pm start time.

The Golden Eagles set the field looking for their first conference win in Sunday's match. The Cardinals, however, scored at will early in the first. The Golden Eagles would come away with several key caused turnovers late in the first half. The Cardinals led the Golden Eagles 16-1 in the first half. As the Golden Eagles stepped onto the field for the second half, their mission was simple: don't allow Wheeling to score at will. The Golden Eagles would accomplish their goal and only allow 5 more goals in the half. Amelia Ramos (Cleveland Heights, OH) and Peyton Harris (Lockport, NY) would be the Golden Eagles' lone scorers.

"I said it in the locker room, and I will say it again… I cannot be any prouder of these young ladies," said Coach Smith. "Losing to a team being players short is tough in itself. We knew it was going to be a challenge, but these young ladies epitomize resilience and strength. The pieces that we have been working on all season came together today. As a coach that is one of the best feelings. Despite the score, and the fact that we lost today, these young ladies are champions, even in defeat."

The Golden Eagles (1-10-0), will host fellow MEC member Notre Dame College of Ohio 4.23.16. This is the last regular season game for the Golden Eagles. First draw is set for 3pm at Laidley Stadium.
