Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Tracy Goal Gives UC 1-0 Win in Season Debut

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Fresh faces on the UC men's soccer roster provided the Golden Eagles with a 1-0 win over Gannon on Thursday evening as Gabriel Cabral and Freddie Tracy combined to score game winner in the 88th minute.

Charleston controlled the game from first whistle to the last as Golden Eagle fans have grown accustomed to over the past few seasons, outshooting the visiting Golden Knights by a 16-5 margin.  UC, however, found it difficult to find the back of the net as the game stayed scoreless for nearly 88 minutes. Will Roberts peppered Gannon goalkeeper Manuel Mangu with five shots, four of which were on frame.

The Golden Eagle's best opportunity before Tracy's game winner came 10 minutes into the second half as a gliding Felipe Antonio carried the ball 70 yards while avoiding defenders before cracking a shot that beat the Golden Knight keeper only to have it smash the crossbar and rebound back into the field. UC continued to threaten throughout the half and broke the scoreless tie with just over two minutes to play.

Gabriel Cabral collected himself for a shot just outside the eighteen that made its way through a crowd only to be saved the Mangu, but it wasn't played cleanly allowing Tracy to follow with a poke around the sprawling keeper.  Cabral, Tracy and the rest of the Golden Eagles welcome Mercyhurst to town Sunday, both sporting a 1-0 record following Mercyhurst's defeat of Notre Dame College earlier in the day.

Sunday's match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Schoenbaum Stadium in Coonskin Park.
