Golden Eagles Go 1-3 at NDC Volleyball Tournament

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Lady Eagles finished play in the Notre Dame College tournament on Saturday, finishing the weekend with a 1-3 record.
 
First up, UC battled a tough Shippensburg Raiders squad, and were outlasted in five sets (16-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 13-15). Senior middle hitter Jordan Wittekind had 14 kills, while freshman libero Kelsey Matusic had a career high 21 digs in the loss. Later in the day, the Lady Eagles traveled to Ursuline College for an evening match against the Lady Arrows. Ursuline came out strong and was able to outlast a late Charleston surge. UC was defeated 3-1 (21-25, 23-25, 27-25, 28-30). In the loss, Tori Clark tallied 11 kills on 30 attempts.
 
In the second day of play, UC would find themselves back at Notre Dame College, first taking on the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown Mountain Cats. UPJ got off to a great start, and was able to outlast UC, again in four sets (13-25, 23-25, 25-16, 16-25). Sophomore Carly Granger had 17 kills in the loss. To finish play at Notre Dame, UC found themselves facing fellow West Virginia foe Alderson Broaddus. UC was able to endure some tough points and defeated the Battlers in four sets (25-23, 25-17, 24-26, 26-24). Carly Granger had 21 kills and added 15 digs, while Chloe Massaro put up 16 assists and nine digs in the win.
 
UC will be on the road again this Tuesday, September 20th, when they travel to Indiana, Pa. to take on the IUP Crimson Hawks.
