Career-Bests for Hayton, Jones Not Enough in Loss to Falcons

Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles couldn't find an answer for Fairmont State's Amanda Ruffner on Sunday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena, dropping a 66-55 decision to the Falcons for their fifth consecutive loss.

A silver lining in Sunday's loss was the play of freshmen Madison Jones and Anna Hayton who both turned in career-high point total with 13 and 12 respectively.  Hayton had a great all-around game for UC, chipping in six rebounds, four blocks and three assists in 21 minutes of action.  Jones played 35 of 40 minutes for the Golden Eagles, adding three steals to her 13 points.

Charleston continues to struggle from the field in their five-game losing streak, connecting on just 35% of their field goal attempts.  The Golden Eagles also failed to take care of the ball, turning the ball over a season-high 28 times against the Falcons.

Despite the poor shooting and turnovers, UC was still in a one-possession game at the midway point of the fourth quarter trailing but just three, 47-50, after a layup by Hayton to cap a 6-0 run.  Fairmont's Ruffner responded with six of her 21 second-half points to stall the Golden Eagle comeback and lead the Falcons to a 11-point, 66-55, win.

Charleston finishes their four-game road trip with a game at Shepherd on Tuesday before the Grand Opening of the H. Bernard Wehrle Athletic Arena Saturday against West Virginia Wesleyan College.
