UC Closes Regular Season with Three-Set Sweep of Mountain Lions

ATHENS, W.Va. – University of Charleston closed their regular season with a 3-0 road sweep of Concord University on Saturday afternoon, winning their fifth straight matching heading into the MEC postseason.

How it Happened
The two teams traded points to start the match, but Charleston went on a 7-2 run to open up an 18-13 lead on the host Mountain Lions. Charleston grew its lead by as much as seven as it went on to win the set 25-18.
 
UC held the lead for much of the early parts of the second set but Concord battled back to tie the game at 13-13. The score went back-and-forth until an attack error gave CU a 19-18 lead. The Golden Eagles came back with five straight points to take a 23-19 edge. But, Concord fought back to tie the set at 24-24. Charleston, dead set on winning in three games, would win three of the next four points to win the game, 27-25.
 
UC was able to go on a 7-1 run early in the third set and controlled the set from there to win by seven points again, closing out the Mountain Lions in three.

Up Next
- The Golden Eagles will travel to Wheeling, W.Va. next Thursday for the quarterfinals of the MEC Women's Volleyball Tournament Championship.  Wheeling Jesuit University will serve as the host for the 2017 Championships with all three rounds being played at the McDonough Center.
