RICHMOND, Va. – UC Women's Basketball made their 2017-18 season debut Tuesday evening at #2 ranked Virginia Union University, pushing the Panthers to the limit before eventually fall to the hosts by 10, 53-63.

How it Happened
UC scored just one point over the first six minutes to trail Virginia Union 1-5 before reeling off 10 straight points to take an 11-5 lead with just over a minute left in the first quarter, shocking the Panthers. After the first 10 minutes, UC held a 14-8 lead and looked poised to leave Richmond with a historic upset win.
The Panthers got back on track in the second period, outscoring the Golden Eagles 19-10 to carry a 27-24 lead over UC into halftime. Charleston continued to hang around behind a strong defensive effort, limiting the Panthers to just 26.5% shooting on the game but were bailed out with 33 free throw attempts, making 25 at the stripe.
Charleston saw the Virginia Union lead go to double-digits, 45-34, late in the third quarter but battled back to remain in striking distance heading into the final quarter trailing by just seven, 39-46. The Golden Eagles made one last push, cutting the deficit to four, 46-50, after an Abby Watson three-pointer with just under six minutes left in the contest. UC couldn't get any closer as the Panthers defended their home court with the 10-point, 63-53 over Charleston in the Golden Eagle opener.
