CHARLESTON, W.Va. – UC Women's Basketball rallied from as many as 15 points down to defeat Fairmont State University 70-69 Saturday evening in their Mountain East Conference opener at the Wehrle Sr. Athletic Arena.

How it Happened
The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start in their home debut, falling behind the visiting Falcons by 12, 21-9, after the 10-minute first quarter.  Fairmont's lead would swell to 15 at the 7:49 mark of the second quarter before Charleston began to cut into the Falcon lead.  UC went on to outscore Fairmont 21 to 14 in the quarter to enter halftime down just fove, 35-30.  The Golden Eagles used a 17-7 run over the final seven plus minutes fueled by six Anna Hayton points and a layup at the buzzer by Marissa Koob to take momentum into the halftime break.
 
Charleston scored the first eight points of the third period to claim their first lead, 38-35, following a three-pointer by Abby Watson.  UC ballooned their advantage to seven, 44-37, only to see the Falcons fight back and even the score at 46-46 with 2:18 remaining in the third period.  UC carried a small cushion throughout much of the fourth quarter but a pair of free throws by Fairmont's Erin Danik tied the score at 64-64 with just 1:15 remaining in the contest.  Coach Adam Collins turned to his sophomore point guard, Octavia Loll, to make something happen and she did, getting an and-one layup to put the Golden Eagles ahead for good as UC held on for a 70-69 victory over visiting Fairmont State.
