A TALE OF FOUR QUARTERS
-UC scored the first points of the evening on an Anna Hayton layup only to see the visiting Rams rattle off 9 straight points before the Golden Eagles stopped the run behind a Mya Walker shot in the paint. Charleston cut the lead to 15-12 with just under 2 minutes go in the opening quarter but Shepherd scored the final 4 points to carry a 19-12 lead into the second quarter.
-Charleston used a strong opening to the second, cutting the deficit to 23-22 on a pair of Octavia Loll free throws at the 4:50 mark of the quarter. UC would never get any closer than that as the Rams used an 8-0 run over the final 4 minutes and carried a 31-24 lead over the Golden Eagles going into the locker room.
-It was another tough third quarter for Golden Eagles, a continuing trend for UC this season. UC found themselves down 17, 45-28, after being outscored 14 to 4 to open the second half and would eventually be down 16 going into the final frame.
-Coach Collins turned up the pressure in the fourth quarter to build a little momentum and throw a scare into the Rams. Following a steal from Loll and a layup by Abby Watson to cut the lead to 11, 64-53, Watson would be whistled for a technical foul and hurt Charleston's chances of making the comeback. UC continued to battle but still found themselves on the wrong end of a 70-59 game, dropping their second straight.
