Softball Falls Twice on Saturday At Coker Tournament

HARTSVILLE, SC. – The University of Charleston (1-3, 0-0 MEC)  fell twice on day two of the Coker Tournament. The Golden Eagles were outscored 10-2 by Lincoln Memorial University (8-2, 0-0 SAC), and came up short against the hosting Coker Cobras (13-3, 0-0 ECAC)

THE BASICS
GAME ONE
 – LMU 10, Charleston 2
GAME TWO – Coker 5, Charleston 4
LOCATION – HARTSVILLE, SC.
RECORDS – Charleston 3-1, 0-0 MEC; LMU (8-2, 0-0 SAC); Coker (13-3, 0-0 ECAC)

CHARLESTON VS. LMU
- Charleston got on the board first with a single by freshman, Karli Pinkerton followed by a 2 RBI homer by Bethany Williams. This would be Charleston's only score of the game. During the bottom of the first, freshman, Dakotah Fraley nailed a double to center field before teammate, Jennifer Moose sent her home with a double to left field. A sac fly by Kelsie Hocutt sent Moose home for the Railsplitter's second score of the game. A homerun by Teddi Goins sent 3 more runners home for LMU bringing the score to 5-2 in the first. 
- After three innings went by without a runner crossing home plate for either team, a single from LMU's Goins at the bottom of the fifth sent Moose home for the Railsplitters. Kristen McAndrew singles one to right field allowing Hocutt to score bringing the score to 8-2 LMU. Ashlea Hunter sent a triple to left field sending 2 runners home.  The game ended after 5 with LMU atop the Golden Eagles 10-2

CHARLESTON VS. COKER
- The Cobras jumped ahead of the Golden Eagles 2-0 during the bottom of the first. Coker had a runner on second when Maria Williamson homered out to left field bringing Kelsi Bachmann home as well. The Cobras would score 2 more runs before the close of the first. 
- Charleston answered at the top of the second after Logan Walkosz sent a single to left field allowing Haleigh Christopher to score for the Golden Ealges.  Senior, Rachelle Toppings smacked one to center field sending Shelby Ume, who advanced to third during the previous play, across home plate. The inning came to and end with UC down 4-2.
- Christopher sailed one out of left field for Charleston's only score of the third bringing them within 1 of the Cobras (4-3). Coker would go scoreless in the third. 
- At the top of the fourth Toppings singled to first base, followed by a double by Pinkerton. Laura Ashlock sent Toppings home on a sac fly down the right field line for the tying score. 
- Charleston could not send anyone home at the top of the fifth, but Coker's Tayler Barcomb singled up the middle to send Bachmann home to take back the lead (5-4).
- After a scoreless sixth inning the Golden Eagles had one more chance to tie the game up at the top of the seventh, but ultimately came up short, dropping their third matchup of the season 4-5. 

CHARLESTON INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Bethany Williams notched a homer in the loss to LMU, while Haleigh Christopher earned one of her own against Coker. 

UP NEXT
- Charleston will face Bloomsburg University on Sunday at 9:00 a.m
