HOW IT HAPPENED
- Midway through the first Charleston holds a two-point advantage on the Hill Toppers. The Golden Eagles maintained their lead with a score of 15-10 until West Liberty struck from the three-point line on 2 straight possessions to bring the score to 17-16 UC.
- Senior Jordan Peck nailed a three to give UC the 20-16 lead with just over one minute to go.A three pointer by West Liberty's Olkosky game the Hill Toppers the 21-20 lead. Charleston took the lead back on the next possession, but with three seconds left the Hill Toppers took the lead back to end the third quarter ahead of Charleston 23-20.
-After two scoreless minutes to start the second quarter Charleston took the lead with a layup by freshman forward, Anna Hayton (24-23). West Liberty tied the game up 27-27 on the next possession. Charleston regained the lead with just over five minutes left in the half. UC held the lead through the rest of the second quarter to go into the break up 33-28 on the Hill Toppers.
- Coming out of the break the Golden Eagles began to separate themselves from the Hill Toppers leading by 11 with 4:19 left in the third quarter. After two free throws by West Liberty's Brandi Beader the Hill Toppers were within four 4 points of catching up to the Golden Eagles, but an 9-2 run by the Golden Eagles would bring the score to 54-43 to end the third quarter.
- Charleston stretched the gap during the fourth quarter. A bucket by senior Olivia Nicholas gave Charleston the 27-point lead with just over a minute to go. Charleston closed out the opening round of the Mountain East conference with a 82-55 win over West Libery.
CHARLESTON INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Sophomore Abby Watson and senior Jordyn Peck led the Golden Eagles with 22 points each. Watson tied her career high in points and steals (22-6) while Jordyn Peck tied her career assists and three pointers made with 4.
- Freshman, Anna Hayton tabbed her third double-double of the season and led Charleston with 14 rebounds.
WEST LIBERTY LEADERS
- Brandi Beader and Grace Fodor led the Hill toppers with 14 points each.
- Fodor led in rebounds, bringing down 10 for West Liberty.
STAT CHECK
- Charleston shot 51.7 percent in the win.
- UC outscored West Liberty 44-24 in the paint.
