CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston (6-5, 0-0 MEC) routed Caldwell University in first game of Spring Break tournament before matchup against California University of Pennsylvania was called due to inclement weather.

CHARLESTON VS. CALDWELL
-Charleston went scoreless in the top of the first. Caldwell scored the first run of the game after Hannah Polak flew out to center field sending Amy Hickman home.
-During the top of the second Freshman, Monica Carter singled off a hard ground ball to center field. Carter stole second during the next at bat before Alyssa Stanley smacked a double to the right field to send Carter home. The score was tied 1-1. Stanley stole third base before Haley Friess scarified to the right fielder. Staley scored on the play bringing the score to 2-1.
-Karli Pinkerton sent a triple to right field at the top of the third. Laura Ashlock singled singled to center field sending her teammate home. During the next at bat, Freshman Haleigh Christopher hit a two-run bomb to left field to give Charleston the four run lead.
-After the second out Carter doubled on a line drive to center field before Stanley hit another double to send Carter across home plate for the score (6-1). Friess tripled during her next at bat sending Stanley home for the Golden Eagles. Caldwell went scoreless during the bottom of the third. Neither team scored during the fourth inning.
-Shelby Ume stepped up for an inside the park homer to give UC the seven run lead. Caldwell came up short again in the fifth. During the top of the sixth Ashlock was walked before Christopher double out to center field sending Ashlock home for the Golden Eagle's final score of the game. Caldwell did not score during the bottom of the sixth giving the game to UC (9-1).

CHARLESTON INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
-Haleigh Christopher led the Golden Eagles with a homer and two RBI.
-Shelby Ume nailed an inside the park homer for Charleston.
-Ali Burdette took the win after pitching all six innings.
