Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, W.Va. –  Charleston Softball (7-6) suffered two losses on day two of Florida tournament. The Golden Eagles fell to Ohio Dominican 3-2 early Tuesday morning and came up short in a close one against Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
THE BASICS
GAME 1 – Ohio Dominican 3; Charleston 2
GAME 2 – IUP 5; Charleston 4
LOCATION – CLERMONT, Fl.
CHARLESTON VS. OHIO DOMINICAN
-Neither team scored in the first two innings. During the top of the third ODU's Liz Sutter grabbed a single off of a bunt. Taylor Kline reached first on an error by the Charleston third baseman, also allowing Sutter to advanced to second. Sutter stole third base while Kline made her way to second base as well. Sutter was able to score on the error by the UC catcher, and Kline made it to third. Kelly Wallace came up to bat for ODU and nailed a triple allowing Ohio Dominican to go up 2-0. Charleston came up short in the bottom of the third.
-ODU did not send any runners home to start the fourth inning. Monica Carter stepped up and hit a double to left field for the Golden Eagles. Alyssa Stanley singled on a bunt, allowing Carter to reach third base. Bailey Gogia stepped in to pinch hit for Haley Friess and was walked. With the bases loaded Rachelle Toppings reaches first base on a fielder's choice advancing all of the runners. Carter was tagged out a home. During the next at bat Karli Pinkerton was walked allowing Stanley to cross home plate for the Golden Eagles bringing the score to 2-1.
-At the top of the fifth Mix hit a single to send Wallace home for ODU to give Ohio Dominican the 3-1 lead. Charleston brought the score within one at the bottom of the sixths after Haley Friess crossed home on the error by the ODU second baseman (3-2).
-Both teams went scoreless in the seventh giving ODU the 3-2 Victory.
CHARLESTON VS. IUP
-In the second game of the day both teams went scoreless in the first inning before IUP sent their first runner home at the bottom of the second to go up 1-0 on the Golden Eagles. Charleston answered during the top of the third when Monica Carter hit a SAC fly to the left fielder allowing the tying run to cross home plate. Karli Pinkerton advanced to second base on the play. Freshman Haleigh Christopher hits a line drive and reaches first base on the error by the right fielder. Pinkerton scores to give the Golden Eagles the 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the third IUP scored on the error by Pinkerton (2-2).
-During the top of the third Natalie Beck hit a double that sent Haley Friess home, who had advanced to second on a wild pitch. Charleston took the 3-2 lead. At the bottom of the third IUP's Amanda Parrish doubles on a line to drive to left field. Two batters later Kaitlyn Beers singled to the shortstop advancing Parrish to third base. Beers steals third base pushing Parrish home for the tying run. IUP scored again on the next at bat on an error by the Charleston second baseman (4-3).
-At the top of the fifth Christopher hit a hard ground ball and was able to reach second base for the Golden Eagles on an error. Laura Ashlock stepped up and smacked a double to left field allowing Christopher to score the tying run for UC. IUP sent their final run of the game home in the bottom of the fifth giving them the 5-4 lead over UC.
-Neither team scored in the sixth. With one more at bat to tie the game up UC, Christopher singled on a ground ball to center field. Logan Walkosz came in to pinch run for Christopher. Walkosz advances to second on a sacrifice by Ashlock. Shelby Ume struck out swinging during the next at bat making that two outs for UC. With two outs and one runner on Alyssa Stanley grounded out to first base ending the game for UC.
UP NEXT
-The Golden Eagles will take the field again on Thursday March 16 for a pair of games starting at 1:00 pm. against Edinboro followed by a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Slippery Rock.
