CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Softball team (19-8, 9-1 MEC) closed out two wins to sweep West Virginia State (17-15, 3-7 MEC) in MEC action on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME ONE
-The first inning was scoreless for both sides, but West Virginia State started the scoring off in the top of the second inning when Kayleigh Thompson sent a single to left field advancing the other runners to send Brittany Allison home for the 1-0 lead.
-A scoreless third inning kept the score at 1-0 State. In the bottom of the fourth with Karli Pinkerton on second, Senior, Laura Ashlock crushed a homer to center field giving UC the 2-1 lead.
-During the next three innings, neither team would score, giving the victory in game one to the Golden Eagles.
GAME TWO
-After taking game one 2-1 the Golden Eagles jumped ahead in the bottom of the first when Laura Ashlock sent a double to left center field sending Monica Carter Across home plate.
-The second and third innings would remain scoreless for both teams. In the bottom of the fourth Hannah Kowach singled to left field sending Sierra Harrington home for the 2-0 lead. Kowach in here seventh at bat of the season, tallied her fourth RBI.
-In the bottom of the fifth inning Haleigh Christopher notched her 32
nd RBI of the year after hitting a single to left center field to send Rachelle Toppings home.
-Both teams went scoreless in the sixth, and UC was able to hold off the Yellow Jackets in the seventh to sweep West Virginia State.
UP NEXT
-The Golden Eagles will face Concord University in a double header on Saturday. The first pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
