CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Softball team (20-9, 10-2 MEC) split their conference double header with the Cavaliers of UVA-Wise (17-13, 8-6 MEC) Sunday.
THE BASICS
GAME 1 – UVA-Wise 3; Charleston 0
GAME 2 – Charleston 3; UVA-Wise 0

GAME ONE
-In the top of the first inning with Ava Hockey on first, Bridget Henzel sent a triple to right center sending Hockey home for the first score of the day.
-During the next at bat, Samantha Ely singled to left field, advancing Henzel to bring the score to 2-0.
-The second and third innings went scoreless for both sides. In the top of the fourth with the bases loaded, Samantha Ely hit her second RBI of the day when she sent a single to center field allowing Olivia Cleary to score for the Cavaliers.
-Unable to send a runner home during the next three innings, UVA-Wise took game one, 3-0.
GAME TWO
-After a slow start for both teams, the Golden Eagles eagles had settled in during the bottom of the third with Pinkerton and Toppings in scoring position. Freshman, Haleigh Christopher singled to centerfield allowing Toppings to score.
-During the next at bat a passed ball allowed Pinkerton to make it home for UC (2-0).
-In the bottom of the fifth with Rachelle Toppings on second base, Monica Carter singled to center field. Toppings' speed carried her through two bases for the 3-0 score.
-The Golden Eagles would hold on to the 3-run advantage through two more scoreless innings to take game two 3-0.
STAT CHECK
-Senior Ali Burdette tied her career high 12 strikeouts in game two of the double header.
UP NEXT
-The Golden Eagles will face Concord University in a double header on Monday. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
