RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Charleston (5-4, 0-0 MEC) went 2-0 on day two of the Shaw University Tournament in Raleigh, N.C. The Golden Eagles defeated Barton College (0-1) and Bowie State University (0-1) on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

CHARLESTON VS. BARTON
-During the bottom of the first Haleigh Christopher doubled one out to left field and sent Karli Pinkerton home for the first score of the game.
-During the next at bat Shelby Ume singled to the short stop advancing Christopher to third who sent Laura Ashlock home for the second score of the game.
-Both teams went scoreless in the second inning. Carter nailed a triple to left center during the top of the third send three runners home for the Golden Eagles bringing the score to 5-0 UC.
-Barton scored it's only two runs of the game during the top of the fifth, and both teams went scoreless in the sixth.
-Barton had one last chance during the top of the seventh to even the score, but came up short. The Golden Eagles outscored Barton 5-2 to win the first game of the day.

CHARLESTON VS. BOWIE STATE
-Charleston found crossed home plate first in the bottom of the first on an unearned run off an error by the Barton short stop. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning.
-Charleston sent three runners home in the third and fourth innings bringing the score to 7-0. Both teams went scoreless again in the fifth inning.
-Barton scored their only run of the game during the top of the sixth while Charleston sent no runners home. Bowie State had one more opportunity in the top of the seventh to stay in the game, but sent no runners home.
-Charleston topped Bowie State 7-1.

- Charleston will take the field Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. to face Lenoir-Rhyne.
