BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Charleston Baseball dropped games three and four to West Virginia Wesleyan College at Hank Ellis Field on Monday afternoon after splitting the doubleheader with the Bobcats on Sunday.
UC has lost four of its last five games after the Bobcats took three games of the 4-game series from Charleston. The Golden Eagle defense gave Wesleyan extra opportunities, committing a total of nine errors during Monday's twin bill, a stat that Coach Wright and his staff will address during the upcoming week.
UC looked to be on track, starting Monday's DH with a 3-run first inning to claim an early 3-0 lead over the Bobcats. WV Wesleyan had the response though, scoring the game's next eight runs over the next five innings to run out to an 8-3 after five complete. UC got a run late but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats earned an 8-4 victory to hand Charleston a loss to start Monday's double header.
Wesleyan kept their momentum going into Game 2, scoring the game's first four runs before Steven Davis belted a 3-run homerun to trim the Bobcat lead to 4-3 in the 7
th inning. The Bobcats answered with a pair of runs to extend their lead to 6-3 only to see Charleston even the game at 6-6 after RBI's by Gianfranco Morello and Lee Carneal. The game was sent into extra innings after a scoreless 9
th, but Charleston's defensive mistakes caught up with them allowing Wesleyan to plate the game-winner in the 10
th and sweep the double header.
Charleston returns to the diamond tomorrow, traveling to King University to take on the Tornado for a single 9-inning game. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
