CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles (21-10, 11-3 MEC) split a double header with Concord University (18-19, 7-7 MEC) on Monday. After falling in 9 innings in game one the Golden Eagles came out swinging in game two, going up 5-0 before the Mountain Lions sent a runner home.

GAME ONE
-After going scoreless in the first inning Concord got on the board first in the second inning when with Lindsey Stahl on first base Allie Reid reached first base before an error by Jessie Rowe allowing her to reach second and Stahl to make it to third base. Lauren Lewis grounded out during the next at bat allowing the first run to be scored for Concord.
-The third inning was scoreless for both teams. In the top of the third Concord continued to build their advantage scoring 2 more runs on UC.
-Charleston finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when an error by the Concord second baseman allowed Natalie Beck to run home for the score. In the bottom of the sixth inning with Monica Carter on second and Christopher on first, Shelby Ume hit a triple sending Carter and Christopher home. Ume was able to score a third run and take the lead after an error by the second baseman.
-In the top of the seventh inning Burdette subbed in for Rowe on the mound and Concord sent two runs home to take the 5-4 lead before Monica Carter singled sending Rachelle Toppings home for the tying run to send the game into extra innings.
-Neither team scored in the eighth inning sending the game to 9 innings. In the top of the ninth Allie Reid doubled to left center to send Abby Beatty home for the win. Charleston was unable to send any runners home in the bottom of the ninth, giving the victory to Concord in game one.
GAME TWO
-Charleston came out swinging in the first inning of game two, scoring five of their six runs in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded Haleigh Christopher doubled to left center sending all three runners home brining the score to 3-0.
-The next two UC batters were walked. With the Ashlock at third and Ume on second, Natalie Beck singled to left field allowing two more Golden Eagles to cross home plate (5-0).
-In the top of the second inning Allied Reid singled sending Stahl home for Concord (5-1).
-The third and fourth innings were scoreless for both sides. In the bottom of the fifth Laura Ashlock singled sending Sierra Harrington home to bring the score to 6-1. Concord was unable to score in the sixth and seventh innings giving the game two victory to Charleston.
STAT CHECK
-Freshman, Haleigh Christopher tied the doubles in a single game record in game two, going 3-for-3 with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs.
-Senior Rachelle Toppings tabbed her 200
th career hit, making her only the third Golden Eagle to ever have 200 hits.
UP NEXT
-The Golden Eagles will close out their home stand on Wednesday with a double header against Walsh University that is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
