CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Softball team (33-14, 21-7 MEC) swept West Virginia State (23-27, 9-19 MEC) on Wednesday in Institute.

GAME ONE
-Laura Ashlock got the ball rolling for the Golden Eagles when she hit a homer to center field in the top of the second inning. With Shelby Ume on second base, Natalie Beck hit a single to the shortstop advancing Ume to third. Ume scored on and error by the Yellow Jacket catcher to bring the score to 2-0.
-In the top of the fourth inning Bethany Williams hit a single to right field to advance Ume to third and sending Sierra Harrington home for the 3-0 lead. Alyssa Stanley stepped up and hit a SAC fly to center field to bring Ume home for the score (4-0).
-With Williams on third and Toppings on second base, Karli Pinkerton hit a single to right field giving Williams time to make it home and bring the score to 5-0.
-Haleigh Christopher hit a single to center field to send two runners home (7-0).
-In the top of the seventh inning, Williams hit a single to center field with a runner on third to give the Golden Eagles the 8-0 victory.
GAME TWO
-With Rachelle Toppings on second base, Monica Carter hit a double to left field to bring toppings home for the 1-0 score.
-In the bottom of the first, Brookelyn Hale hit a single to center field to advance Micca Mirabella for the tying run. The Yellow Jackets tied the game up after scoring on a passed ball (2-1).
-In the top of the third, Karli Pinkerton hit a single to second base to bring Natalie Beck home to tie the game up 2-2.
-In the top of the sixth, Shelby Ume hit a single to second base. Ume advanced on an error by the shortstop, allowing Walkosz and Christopher to score (4-2).
-In the top of the seventh inning Haleigh Christopher hit a single to center field to send Beck home for the 5-2 lead. State was unable to score in the bottom of the seventh to give the Golden Eagles the victory in a game two and the sweep.
UP NEXT
-The Golden Eagles will travel to Fairmont, WV to face the Fighting Falcons on Saturday for a double header set for 1:00 p.m.
