Golden Eagles Close Out Home Stand with Sweep Of Walsh

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles (23-10, 11-3MEC) swept the Cavaliers of Walsh University in a double header on Wednesday. Senior pitcher, Alli Burdette tabbed her 300th career strikeout in game one.

THE BASICS
GAME 1 –Charleston 4; Walsh 0
GAME 2 – Charleston 9; Walsh 1
LOCATION – CHARLESTON, W.Va.
RECORDS – Charleston (23-10, 11-3 MEC), Walsh (7-20, 0-06 GMAC)

GAME ONE
-With Rachelle Toppings on third base and Monica Carter on second, Haleigh Christopher sent a sacrifice fly to center field to send Toppings home for the first run of the game.
-In the bottom of the third inning Toppings cent a ball to right center field for an in-the-park homerun to bring the score to 2-0.
-The Golden Eagles sealed the deal in the bottom of the fourth when Alyssa Stanley scored on a wild pitch followed by an error by the Walsh pitcher to sent Ansley Warner home for UC's fourth run.
-The final innings were scoreless for bot teams allowing UC to take game one 4-0.

GAME TWO
-During the bottom of the first inning singled to center field sending Karli Pinkerton and toppings home, bringing the score to 2-0.
-Alyssa Stanley sent a double to right field allowing Ashlock and Ume to score (4-0). Natalie beck singled to center field sending Alyssa Stanley home for the score.
-On the next at bat in the first inning Toppings singled to right field advancing Warner from third base to bring the score to 6-0.
-In the top of the second inning with Abbey Yaugher on third Becca Bode doubled to right center to sending Yaugher home for Walsh's only run of the game.
-In the bottom of the fifth Kuula walked Bailey Gogia allowing, also giving the free run to Ume. Monica carter then singled to right field sending Beck and Warner home.
-The Golden Eagles ended the game after the fifth inning, taking game two 9-1.

STAT CHECK
-Senior Rachelle Toppings went 6-for-6 in during the day, putting her batting average at .400 after game two.

UP NEXT
-The Golden Eagles will travel to West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday for a double header set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
