UC Goes Down in Rematch of 2016 MEC Women's Soccer Championship

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston suffered a tough home loss to Notre Dame College, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at The Fields at Trace Fork in a rematch of last season's MEC Tournament Championship

Just the Basics
SCORE -   Notre Dame College 2, Charleston 1
TEAM RECORDS - Notre Dame (3-0, 3-0 MEC), Charleston (1-2-1, 1-1-1 MEC)

 How it Happened
The game started off well for the Golden Eagles as Adele Siegel scored the game's first goal after 130 seconds, her first of the 2017 season and 7th career goal. The preseason conference favorites held on to its lead until the 33rd minute when Alyssa Soltis scored for the visiting Falcons.  UC coach Todd Diuguid demanded a hand ball be called on Soltis, but went unheard by the referee crew allowing the goal to stand and knotting it at 1-1

Charleston and Notre Dame entered halftime tied at 1-1. Tight games are nothing new to the Falcons and Golden Eagles as they split the regular season in 2016, each winning by one on the other's home pitch. The teams also met up in the MEC Tournament Championship last season, ending regulation in a 0-0 tie. Notre Dame won the match after shoot-out.

In the second half, things started off slowly for the both the Falcons and Golden Eagles, but UC seemed to have the upper hand forcing Notre Dame keeper Kyra McDowell into a pair of saves. It was in the 21st minute of the second half when the Falcons took their first shot and it was good one as Katarina Doncevic hit the back of the net for what would become the game-winning goal.  Charleston couldn't generate any offense over the final 25 minutes, allowing NDC to leave Charleston with a 2-1 win
