Hilltoppers Edge Out Charleston On the Road

WEST LIBERTY, WV – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles (1-2, 1-2 MEC) came up short in Thursday night MEC action against the West Liberty Hilltoppers (0-2, 0-2 MEC).

-Olszewski led the Golden Eagles with 162 yards of total offense. 
 -Vernard Robers led the Golden Eagles on the ground with 71 yards rushing.

Charleston Game Leaders: Defense
-Luke Sears led the Golden Eagles with 8 tackles, and 1.5 tackles for loss. 
-John Cominsky was just behind with 5 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. 
-Junior Khazin Daniels tallied 1.5 sacks to put him third all time for career sacks for the Golden Eagles.

-Colabella led WLU with 178 yards passing while Savion Johnson led with 40 yards rushing.

-Mohammed Sankoh led the Hilltoppers with 12 tackles.
-Clifford Clark tallied 10 tackles in the West Liberty Victory. 

How it Happened
-With 4:26 to go in the first quarter West Liberty's Brent Colabella connected with Malara on a 14 yd pass, but the 
PAT was no good. To close out the first quarter the Hilltoppers led 6-0. 
-Five minutes into the second quarter Chris Morris hit a 31-yard field goal to give West Liberty the 9-0 lead. 
-Charleston got on the board with a 33-yard field goal by Dylan Miles to close the half out 9-3. 
-In the final minutes of the third quarter, Miles hit a 35-yard field goal to put the Golden Eagles within 3 (9-6). 
-With 00:01 left on the game clock, UC had the chance to tie the game up with a 34-yard field goal attempt. The kick was no good and UC fell to the Hilltoppers 9-6.

-The Golden Eagles will host Fairmont State at home on Thursday, September 21. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
